a touch of winter and 11 things.

just when you think winter has walked away a cool breeze blows the darkness back to your day. there is a chill in the air and a shiver on your skin. snowflakes dance across the sky with rigid movement. falling to ground and instantly disappearing. their graceful waltz was left in january and all that lingers now are the small remains of an expired winter.

spring arrived and then she left.
but i know she will be back.
today is a chilly dark saturday that makes me want to make a fire and lay on the couch. today we look for homes. we play indoors with the kids. i'll run on the treadmill because i just don't feel like running in the cold. we'll make a batch of cookies and eat them while we watch a movie tonight. it's a good night for a camp out. blankets and pillows and sleeping bags arranged on the living room floor.
last night i fell asleep with the kids.
i can't wait to do it again.
tonight.

i snapped the above photos when i was on my way home from pittsburgh a couple weeks ago. it was early in the morning, i had my coffee and good tunes and the ohio scenery just captured my eye. so i pulled over and snapped away. i walked along on the waters edge and enjoyed the peacefulness of nature.
i'm thankful for that moment.

well, i got tagged by lovely danielle for the 11 things post. you can read my first post here. i do enjoy these because it's a great way to get to know one another. so here it goes:

2. Post a photo of yourself and 11 random things.
3. Answer the questions set for you in the original post.
4. Create 11 new questions and tag people to answer them.

11 Things about me:

>> Jon and I have a poster collection of the Phish shows we have been to. Unfortunately, we didn't start it until 2009 but we already have a closet full. Now I need to work on getting them frames.

>> I once met Bob Weir. He actually ate at Benders (our restaurant) but I was to chicken to ask for his autograph. Everyone else was asking and I felt funny because of the restaurant. Turns out I randomly ran into him at Rite Aid the following day and got it then.

>> My grandparents would spend their winters in New Mexico and we would occasionally visit. I have a love for the west because it reminds me of them and they were amazing people.

>> Turquoise is my favorite color and favorite stone.

>> I had a bad tooth accident when I was younger. I fell by the side of the pool and landed on my mouth and my two front adult teeth were pushed back up into the gums.

>> My first car was a VW Beetle. Sometimes I miss that car. We had some good vacations in that car. Trips to the beach, Phish shows, camping, Bonnaroo one and two and plenty of other concerts ;)

>> I didn't get my license till I was 21

>> The Last of the Mohicans is my favorite movie. I love history, especially American history.

>> This year Jon and I will celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary!

>> I love nature. I love hiking and try to get out as much as I can. When we plan trips we usually base them around some form of nature (except the beach, then we just beach it). Even our last trip to Telluride when I was 8 months pregnant we did some fun somewhat intense hikes. Not as crazy as the last time we were there though. Although Jon did get me on a bike to ride into town each day and to the Phish shows. What a site!

>> I am the youngest of three. My sister is 9 years older and my brother is 7. I'm close with both and their spouses. I'm also very close with my parents and talk to my mom every day. I can't imagine a day without talking to her.

And here are Danielle's questions for me:

1. if you could have any superhuman strength, what would it be?

to fly! definitely to fly. over mountains, rolling hills, and endless oceans.

2. what do you consider your greatest talent?
hmm. this is kinda hard because i feel like i dabble in a lot and may be good at things but i wouldn't call it talent. does multitasking count? i can make dinner for the family, play with the kids, work on jewelry, do laundry, edit photos and clean all at the same time!

3. if you could live anywhere else in the world for one year, where would it be and why?
oh man...city life in Paris or country side in the hills of Spain.... I may have to go with a year in Paris, even though i'm Spanish and have family in Spain.

4. if you could make up a color, what would it look like and what would you call it?
i would create some colorful combo of yellow, blue and green and get it to just the ride shade and call it Joy.

5. what's the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
for my 30th birthday Jon threw a surprise birthday party for me at the restaurant. he worked so hard and it was amazing. he's amazing.

6. what is one quirk about you that other people don't understand?
i get kinda funny with the house is messy and cluttered. it really stresses me out and makes me nervous. when the house is clean and clutter free i feel so good and can actually sit down and enjoy my home. i can't stand clutter!!

7. if you could do one thing that would be felt worldwide, what would it be?
children have always had a soft spot in my heart. no child should be abandoned, unsheltered or left to hunger. there are so many children all over the world who need help in one way or another. i wish i could lend a hand in helping them all. when i first graduated from college i turned down an opportunity to volunteer in orphanages in Romania. to this day i regret that decision, but my life took me in another direction at that time (a job).

8. alive or deceased, what one person would you like to have as a best friend?
Frida Kahlo. from the day she was born this woman was filled with such passion and emotion. the story of her life is truly amazing and i see so much beauty in her and the paintings she has left the world.

9. what's the most delicious thing you cook?
i've been working on mastering my dairy free desserts. i make a killer chocolate cake with chocolate icing. recently, i made vegan coconut chocolate chip bars that were so good i ate them all.

10. in your life, who has been your biggest cheerleader?
jon, my husband, has always supported me in everything i do. he believes in me and always stands by my side, even through all my new projects that i constantly take on. that being said, my parents have also always been by my side, even when i strayed they always stood by me. for that i am ever thankful.

11. what scares you?
failure. i am my worst critic when it comes to parenting. i want to guide my children in the best direction that i can and it scares me that i may fail. i will always try my hardest. i will always be there for my children and support them no matter what.

I invite everyone to participate. Feel free to use Danielle's questions or just post 11 things about yourself. Don't forget to leave me a comment. I love getting to know my readers!!

  3. i loved reading your facts, and answers, and i can COMPLETELY relate with the thing about house cleaning. i know some people think i need to relax and let there be dirt on the floor, but why can't they understand that i'll relax AFTER i've cleaned it up?! we're not weird, they are!

  4. I am the same way about clutter around the house. Since I'm moving home to Canton in five days my apartment currently looks like it exploded and it stresses me out so much but The Hubs is very good at making me realize that this time, it's ok for there to be a mess!

I can't wait to pick up my jewelry from you :)
